How AgroBee-L Modules Achieve Autonomy and Efficiency with Supercapacitors
In the agricultural sector, energy efficiency and equipment durability are critical factors for ensuring reliable long-term operation. In this context, AgroBee-L modules incorporate one of the most advanced energy storage technologies on the market: supercapacitors.
A Technology That Redefines Field Autonomy
Supercapacitors offer a lifespan exceeding 15 years of operation, eliminating the need for periodic replacements. This is a significant advantage in distributed agricultural installations, where accessibility may be limited and frequent maintenance can be costly.
AgroBee-L modules also integrate a high-efficiency solar panel to keep the supercapacitors charged. Thanks to the system’s low energy consumption, charging occurs even on cloudy days or under low solar radiation, ensuring continuous and sustainable power under any environmental conditions.
Important Considerations During Storage
Although supercapacitors are renowned for their durability, they require specific care when stored as spares. Following these recommendations helps preserve their energy capacity and ensures optimal performance once deployed in the field.
- Store with the switch in the OFF position
Before storing an AgroBee-L module, make sure the switch is set to OFF.
- Self-discharge
Even when turned off, supercapacitors experience a gradual self-discharge, which leads to progressive energy loss over time.
- Semi-annual recharge maintenance
To prevent stored energy from dropping below the recommended threshold, a preventive recharge every 6 months is required:- Place the modules (switch still OFF) with the solar panel facing the sun for at least 2 hours to recharge the supercapacitors.
- Once charging is complete, return the modules to storage.
- Repeat this process every 6 months while the modules remain uninstalled.
This simple procedure ensures that the supercapacitors retain full operational capacity and that the module is ready for immediate use when needed.
Transport and Updates: A Key Precaution
If sending an AgroBee-L module to Progrés for updates or repair, ensure the switch is set to OFF before shipment. This protects the internal components and contributes to safe transport and handling.
Supercapacitors in AgroBee-L modules represent a significant advancement in energy management for smart agricultural solutions. Their long lifespan, autonomy, and sustainability make this technology a key pillar of modern agricultural IoT. However, proper storage maintenance is essential to ensure these components continue delivering maximum performance throughout their operational life.
